Intas DEKSA (dexamethasone) is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid used for its rapid anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-shock effects. It is generally indicated for both small and large animals, particularly cattle and horses.
INDICATIONS
- Bovine Ketosis (Acetonaemia): Used as a primary treatment for ketosis in cattle to normalize blood sugar levels.
- Inflammatory Conditions: Treatment of musculoskeletal inflammations like arthritis, bursitis, carpitis, myositis, laminitis, and tendonitis in horses and cattle.
- Allergic Reactions: Management of acute allergic reactions, including urticaria (hives), skin allergies, and asthma.
- Shock and Emergency Therapy: Administered intravenously as supportive therapy for shock, trauma, or severe anaphylactic reactions.
- Supportive Therapy in Infections: Used in conjunction with appropriate antibiotic or chemotherapeutic agents for conditions like mastitis, metritis, pneumonia, and shipping fever to manage stress and inflammation.
- Induction of Parturition: Used for the therapeutic induction of parturition in cattle during the last stages of pregnancy.
ADMINISTRATION
- species: Used for cattle, horses, dogs, and cats.
- Route: Intravenous (IV) is preferred for rapid response (e.g., shock), while intramuscular (IM) is also used.
- Dosage: Must be individualized based on the severity of the condition and the animal’s weight.
Important Contraindications and Warnings:
- Pregnancy: Do not use in the last trimester of pregnancy as it can induce labor and cause dystocia or fetal death.
- Infections: Do not use in animals with viral infections during the viremic stage or with untreated bacterial infections.
- Pre-existing Conditions: Use with caution in animals with diabetes, kidney disease, or gastric ulcers.
- Laminitis: Corticosteroids can trigger laminitis in horses.
